The real heroes of the recent Ebola outbreak were the NGOs active on the ground. Their show of solidarity towards the least privileged and most fragile communities suffering from this unprecedented Ebola outbreak is an example for all.
While many more than three NGOs were active in fighting the Ebola outbreak and the Commission recognises and commends the efforts of them all, this year’s award will be given to three NGOs who were at the forefront of the fight against Ebola and have carried out high quality and effective initiatives.
The call for applications for the EU Health Award will focus on:
Initiatives that benefit the health of EU citizens and the EU health workforce (these can include training, communication activities, preparedness and response…).
Initiatives that work towards the detection, control and/or elimination of the disease in the emergency area. These could serve to enhance EU preparedness and response due to their transferability in case of an outbreak or any serious health threat in the EU/EEA territory. The deadline for submitting applications is 31 July 2015, 23.59 CET/Brussels Time.
Prizes for the winners are as follows:
1st prize: 20 000 €
2nd prize: 15 000 €
3rd prize: 10 000 €
All shortlisted candidates will be invited to an Award Ceremony in the presence of the Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Vytenis Andriukaitis.
